Getting Started with AI

I recently shared a blog post “AI at Home: A Beginner’s Guide.” If you are brand new to ChatGPT, I recommend starting there. It summarizes the good-to-know’s before you dive in. Luckily, with the help of chatbots like ChatGPT, getting started is simple.

ChatGPT and Food

In the kitchen, where food-related tasks feel never-ending, ChatGPT has surprised me the most. From meal planning to recipe tweaks, it’s become a trusty sidekick for those culinary questions that just keep coming. Whether you’re a weekend baker or a weekday chef, give these prompts a try:

Peanut-Free Lunches: “Hey ChatGPT, both of my kids are heading to school this year! Share some simple peanut-free, high-protein lunch ideas for picky eaters.”

Quick Meal Plans: “Hey ChatGPT, I’ve got one packed week coming up. Can you help me create a meal plan where I’m only cooking for 20 minutes each night?”

Healthy Alternatives: “Hey ChatGPT, take a peek at my grocery list [paste list]. Got any healthier swaps?”

Pantry Inspiration: “Hey ChatGPT, I’ve got chicken, zucchini, and rice in my pantry. What can I make with these?”

ChatGPT and Reading

I’ve been reading every day this year, and ChatGPT’s been a big help. Some might think it’s odd to mix AI and books, but I’m all for making things easier and more fun. Here’s how you can use ChatGPT to hit your reading goals:

Applying IKIGAI: “Hey ChatGPT, I just wrapped up the book ‘IKIGAI,’ and now I want to bring its wisdom into my whirlwind life here in Ontario—balancing work, two kiddos, and everything in between. Any suggestions on how to apply IKIGAI?”

Romantic Classics: “Hey, ChatGPT, I want to read more classics, specifically romance, but I’ve struggled with the language putting me to sleep. Can you recommend a classic love story that’s known for being more accessible and engaging?”

Book Summaries: “Hey ChatGPT, I’ve heard of a book called ‘Atomic Habits,’ but I don’t have time to read it all. Can you give me a quick summary?”

Kid’s Reading Challenge: “Hey ChatGPT, my 7-year-old just found the joy of reading. Can you help me create a summer reading challenge tailored for her?”

Sci-Fi for Beginners: “Hey ChatGPT, sci-fi is new territory for me. Could you point me to a beginner-friendly book?”

ChatGPT, Parenting & Kids

Let’s face it, parenting is a wild ride, and who couldn’t use an extra hand (or a friendly AI) every now and then? I’m no parenting expert, just a resourceful mom looking to simplify, explore, and sometimes just survive the day. And guess what? ChatGPT has turned out to be a surprising helper on this parenting journey. Here are some ways ChatGPT has helped:

Storytelling Time: “Hey ChatGPT, my 4-year-old just developed a fear of the dark – Can you write a story about a brave dinosaur overcoming its fear of the dark?”

Party Planning: “Hey ChatGPT, my 7-year-old would like to include beginner Pokemon trivia at her birthday party, can you list 10 trivia questions?”

Learning to Ride: “Hey ChatGPT, I’m having trouble teaching my kids how to ride bikes. They worry about falling. Any actionable tips?”

LEGO Builds: “Hey ChatGPT, it’s a rainy day, and the kids are itching to create something new with their LEGO sets. What are some cool build ideas for varying skill levels?”

Math Made Fun: “Hey ChatGPT, my daughter wants to learn multiplication tables. Can you come up with some fun ways to practice them together?”

ChatGPT’s Quick Fixes

Life’s filled with those unexpected, off-the-cuff moments when you just need a quick answer. I found ChatGPT to be an incredible ally, right there with a helpful suggestion or creative fix. Here are some unexpected ways ChatGPT’s made my daily routine just a bit easier:

Indoor Plant Solutions: “Hey ChatGPT, my indoor plant pots don’t have drainage holes and I don’t want to wrestle with a drill. Got any non-hardware solutions?”

Hostess Gift Ideas: “Hey ChatGPT, I’m off to a pool party for my son’s preschool graduation. What’s the coolest thing I can bring as a hostess gift?”

Decluttering Direction: “Hey ChatGPT, I’ve got this urge to declutter before the back-to-school madness. Where on earth should I start?”

AI Privacy and Knowledge

When I talk about ChatGPT or other AI tools, I feel like I’m inviting you on a tech adventure. Before you dive in, there are a few things to know to keep you safe and on track. Think of it like checking the map before heading out. Here’s what you need to know:

Protect Your Personal Information: AI doesn’t need your private details to provide answers. Feel free to ask questions without sharing personal information.

Knowledge Up to 2021: ChatGPT’s information goes up until 2021, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for the latest updates.

Taking the AI Leap

AI’s become a real helper at my house, and I want to shout it from the rooftops. Remember the kitchen tasks and parenting adventures we talked about earlier? Those are just scratching the surface of what AI can do at home. So give ChatGPT a try, have fun with it, and let me know how it goes in the comments below. We’re all in this together, figuring out how to make life a little bit easier and even more fun.
